The American Dream is the dream of which any person from anywhere can become rich through hard work and willpower. However, after the great recession in 2009, many people’s view of the American dream had changed. Rather than financial success, more people are pegging for abstract values such as freedom and opportunity. This is because during the great recession, there was a great economical problem in the United States, so rich and wealth is harder to ask for, so more people define the American Dream differently. They define it differently because they want to hold on to their dream.
American’s wealth distribution is highly unequal. The top 20% of the social class of America owns more than 80% of the all wealth of the nation. And the top 1 percent owns as much as the bottom 40% of people. This means that the bottom 20% has barely any money.
The Gatsby curve is a graph that shows the countries status on the relationship between economic mobility and income distribution. When the income distribution is more concentrated on the top, rich people will be richer and their child will have more opportunity and so they will more likely to live a life as good as or better than their parents.
