Speech Writing
Introduction: This is my speech for the speech unit final project in our public speaking class. It is written on the day March 18th of 2013.
Reflection: The hardest part was finding the format that I am most comfortable in reading the speech. What I did well was reading it on the stage and yet still make many eye contact to my audience and make body language at the same time. For that, I got the highest mark in the class.
If I had to do this assignment again, I would make my speech shorter, because it is too long and it exceeded the time limit. I learned that writing a speech that you have to read on the podium is really difficult. I also learned how to write better speeches and how to control the amount of words in a speech.

Hello Dear people of China, we are here today to discuss some serious problems that China is facing.
China has some serious problems. But we are only going to talk about two of them. The first of them being the pollution problem, this includes the air pollution and the water pollution, which is important because it’s what we breathe and drink. Also I am going to talk about the food problem in china; this includes the food safety, which we all care because our life depends on food.
The air above the country china is mainly mixed with Carbon Dioxide and carbon monoxide. Pollutant from burning coal and petrol rises up into the atmosphere. These gases are poisonous and it creates several health problems such as lung cancer and asthma. Now this is some serious issue, because you have no idea what you are breathing when you are out working, or playing in the garden. According to an anonymous source, while other countries pollution value is being 30, China is around 300. Also from the very same source, and also according to the top 10 most polluted city in the world chart, seven of the cities belong to China. It is all because of exhaust emission. Research shows that the petrol used for cars in china produce 10 times the pollutant the petrol in US, in Europe does.
China also has a great deal of water pollution. Walking by the lakes in parks, paper waste and rubbish can be seen floating on the water. China has great water pollution, the rain water that is purified into drinking water, is affected by the air pollution because of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Well lately, people have salvages some floating bodies in Huangpu river. Sick and dead pigs are discovered floating in Huangpu River. This river is one of the water sources for the citizens in Shanghai. Because farmers find it expensive to get rid of their sick pigs so they decided to through it into the river. It is a problem with the people’s mind nowadays. No offense to those of you here but many people are selfish. They think too much about themselves and only thought of taking what the environment have for their own purpose. People should show gratitude to the environment around them because it is the place they live it, instead of screwing the place up. Twenty years ago the sky is blue and the water is clear. But as the development takes place, the possibility of getting lung cancer for people who smoke and people who don’t smoke is the same, because the dust in the air we breathe. Breathing the air of China for one day equals to smoking nine cigarettes.
Moving on, let’s talk about the food issues. If you’re living in China, you must be careful about foods. Now I have heard of unclean food, impure food but never heard of fake food. This problem is certain big, people make fake eggs, why would they do that? Real ones are not even cheap to make. But the bigger problem is making fake baby powder. China has already tried to resolve this issue but if I buy baby powder, I would still feel very unsafe and hesitant. Many more Chinese people than foreigners are harmed by ingesting toxic or substandard foods and drugs each year. In one particularly tragic case in Anhui in 2004, for example, several babies died of malnutrition after consuming fake baby-milk powder. Investigative programmers exposing factories, farms and restaurants engaged in various nefarious practices with food are a stomach-churning staple of Chinese television. Some food also contains plastic materials used as an ingredient or whitewash powder. Being a citizen of China, it is virtually impossible to buy or eat foods that have problems in them. Well as the leader of China, let me tell you something I know that can help you avoid under quality foods. Stick with big brands that you trust. Although there might be some bad food that will slip through their supplier’s quality control system but food problems from smaller companies are much more likely to either never be discovered or found out too late. When it comes to something as important as the substances we depend on for survival, don’t be cheap.
In the end I just want to tell everyone. Don’t be cheap and risk your own and also other people’s health. God have created this environment for us to live in, it used to be green, pure, clean, but now it is grey, polluted with wastes gaining every year as the development goes on. Doing something for this environment such as plant trees, pick up the garbage, and do something nice for this environment so that we can work towards a planet we once had. Our pollution not only effect ourselves but also other countries, wind carries dust to other regions of the world and all rivers flows to the ocean. You are all good people, I am sure that if we try, we can have that green, clean planet again, no matter how long it takes. Thank you
